This board is a great source of information....Thanks to all those that contribute.
****
I recently purchased a MH 22 (22GS2226) that hadn't run in decades...After oil pump replacement, new wiring, lots of fluids, plugs, new float and a lot of cleaning the old girl came to life. It starts on the first crank, cold or hot and runs perfectly.
Couple of things...
1. After the first start (drove around for 10mins - no load), it now smokes when first started cold (again, starts on first crank). What is the most likely cause? Its cleans up in less than a minute.
2. The drawbar is not original and I want to replace. Can someone provide some pics for me to use as reference. The 22's are that common up here....What other models would use same assembly? Would a 20 or 30 be the same?
3. 2 of 3 light bulbs need replacement...Does anyone have a source and model?
4. The front u-joint on the drive shaft needs replacement and the shaft is seized on the trans spline. There is no where to get a puller in there and no where substantial to remove with a bar. I may be able to change the front u-joint in place using a large "C" clamp to get the caps out. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the Massey board Miles, i am not familiar with
the 22's but someone will be along to help you.
Drop down "around the campfire" board and introduce yourself to
all the members when you get the chance. Good to have another
Canadian on board _________________ JJ.

Most likely cause of smoke on start-up is bad valve seals. No real big deal, looks bad though. _________________ 2005 Craftsman LT-1000, 1977 1450 Cub Cadet, 1969 110 John Deere + 2006 Honda VTX 1300s and looking |

You say it sat for decades. You probably answered your own question about the smoke right there. If you just cleaned it up and got it running with what it was it probably has more than a few worn parts.Modern lubricants tend to sneek through smaller spaces than the lubricants of that tractors era.If a little blue doesn't bother you and it isn't fouling things up maybe just let it be for now. _________________ 1955 MH 55 Hillside Diesel
