Hello gang-

My cub will not start with starter but I park it on a hill and it starts immediately. Has new plugs, recent points, good compression. Any ideas?

Thanks

If it is battery ignition you may have a weak battery that is pulling down while turning the starter. Poor battery connections are another source of loss. All connections should be clean, shiny and tight.
If you can, put a voltmeter across the battery terminals and monitor the voltage of the battery just setting there and then while cranking the engine over. It will give you some idea of whether you are losing energy in the circuit.

Hmmmm. Does the starter spin over pretty fast cold, or does it just kinda roll over slowly. Theres no reason why it shouldnt start off of the starter cold unless the battery is weak. Im thinking that there may be a problem with either the starter or the cables. Also, which gear are you starting it in when you roll it down here.
